German powerhouses to put on a show

Last season’s Bundesliga double-header between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund produced a feast of goals and the first meeting between the pair this term from the BayArena looks set to be another high-octane encounter.

Leverkusen were 3-2 winners away at Dortmund in January of last season before Die Borussen got their revenge on the road in May, coming from a goal down to triumph 4-2.

It looks a tough ask for either side to challenge a rampant Bayern in the Bundesliga title race but they will both feel that they can finish second ahead of Leipzig and confidence should be high following their midweek Champions League success.

Leverkusen claimed an impressive 2-0 victory at a much-changed Manchester City to make it four wins on the bounce, while Dortmund swatted aside Villarreal 4-0 at home to snap a three-game winless run.

The hosts routed Heidenheim 6-0 in their last league fixture at the BayArena but they must be wary of Dortmund’s attacking threat, with BVB seeing both teams score in seven of their last ten away games.

Leverkusen have scored 27 goals in 11 league outings, a total bettered only by Bayern, and
both teams have netted in 11 of the last 14 meetings to suggest this should be gung-ho.

Two of the last four clashes between these German heavyweights have ended in score draws and, with Dortmund sharing the spoils in three of their last six fixtures, a punt on 2-2 could reap the rewards.
