      Charlton to Win

      Reason for tip

Charlton look the call here. Portsmouth’s attack has gone missing — just six away goals all season and five blanks in their last seven league games. Their away form is dire too, with no wins in seven and six defeats in their last eight on the road. Charlton aren’t flashy, but they’re far more reliable than a Pompey side leaking goals and offering little threat.

      Charlton 1-0

      Reason for tip

A tight 1-0 Charlton win makes most sense. Portsmouth concede plenty away from home and rarely score, while Charlton’s matches often stay low-scoring, with 11 of 18 finishing under 2.5 goals. Four of Charlton’s six victories have been by a single goal, and this feels like another narrow but deserved home success.

      Charlton vs Portsmouth Predictions

Charlton to grind out another home win against toothless Pompey

Charlton are the best bet to beat Portsmouth at The Valley on Saturday. The visitors are struggling to find the net this season, and Nathan Jones’ side can take advantage.

They are 17th in the league, five places above Portsmouth, but both teams have lost more games than they’ve won this season. The hosts have six wins and seven defeats, while the visitors have four wins and nine losses.

Portsmouth could not break their losing run last weekend, when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Bristol City in a tightly contested game. They were priced at 9/5 to win the game.

The visitors’ defence has been far from watertight. Portsmouth have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five Championship away games and have shipped 14 goals on the road this season – an average of 1.75 goals per game.

Portsmouth’s recent away form has been poor, with six of their last eight Championship matches ending in defeat. They have failed to win any of their last seven on the road, losing four of the last five.

The visitors have been disappointing in front of goal away from home this season, scoring just six goals in eight games – an average of 0.75 goals a game on the road. Portsmouth have failed to score in five of their last seven Championship matches.

There have been fewer than three goals in 11 of Charlton’s 18 Championship outings this season, and four of their six victories have been by one goal. With that in mind, a 1-0 home win looks the best correct-score option.
