Doncaster To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Crewe have failed to score in five of their last seven games, winning only one of their last nine. Form like that suggests they will come unstuck against a Doncaster side that have won 10 of their last 11 matches, keeping six clean sheets across that run,

Doncaster 2-0

Reason for tip

Crewe’s scrambled equaliser in stoppage time against a Colchester team that only needed a draw to stay up was only their second goal in seven games. They are unlikely to score against Donny team with more clean sheets than not in their last 11 and a proven ability to score multiple goals against anyone. A 2-0 Rovers win, the same score it finished between these in Doncaster two months ago, is the preferred play.

Joe Ironside To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Joe Ironside has scored 20 goals this season, including six in his last five appearances for Doncaster. He also scored on Donny’s last visit to Crewe in November.

Crewe have hit the buffers

Crewe’s promotion challenge could be derailed by Doncaster in Monday night’s clash of League Two promotion contenders in contrasting form.

The Alex almost backed into the play-offs after winning only one of their last nine regular-season fixtures amid a worrying goal drought. Lee Bell’s side scored just twice across their last seven games and needed a 92nd-minute Elliott Nevitt leveller in last week’s thrilling finale at Colchester to conform their berth in the top seven.

Rovers finished the campaign like the proverbial steam train, winning 10 games in a row prior to their last-day 2-2 draw at Gillingham when their spot in the play-offs was already confirmed.

In-form Ironside looks a strong goalscorer play

Grant McCann’s men are scoring plenty of goals and are not wholly reliant on player for them, although striker Joe Ironside struck his 20th of the league campaign against the Gills.

That was the fifth game in a row the Donny goal machine had obliged in and he looks like the standout candidate to get on the scoresheet at Gresty Road, where he notched in a 3-2 away defeat at the Railwaymen in November.

Rovers reversed the tables on Crewe when they met in South Yorkshire this spring and a repeat of that 2-0 scoreline looks very possible given the hosts’ struggles in front of goal and Doncaster’s determination to keep their streak going.
