Lazio to Win

Reason for tip

Lazio have won three of their last five away league matches and each of their last four in all competitions. Meanwhile, Monza have lost three of their last four home Serie A fixtures and look to be ready for their summer break.

Lazio 2-1

Reason for tip

Monza have conceded more than once in four of their last five league games at U-Power Stadium. They usually score at the ground, but have stopped at one in five of their last eight home matches. A 2-1 Lazio win is taken because of the visitors’ fine recent winning form and propensity to concede the odd goal.

Monza have been plodding along in the slow lane

Lazio will look to extend their four-game winning streak when they travel to Monza on Saturday. It is easy to assume Raffaele Palladino’s side are ‘on the beach’ given their current five-game winless run.

After going undefeated through February and beating AC Milan 4-2 during that month, things began to go awry in late March when they lost to Torino and Napoli. A 0-0 draw with Bologna in their next match was a decent result, but Monza have since suffered a home defeat to Atalanta and scraped a 1-1 draw at Lecce.

Their goals in both of those recent games came very late and almost suggest that they were happily plodding along for a point until their opponents’ goal gave them a kick up the backside.

Lazio look intent on making it into Europe

Whether Monza can be trusted to beat any opponent must be in question right now, but a side with as much momentum as Lazio should surely have too much for them.

Igor Tudor has been getting a tune out of his team in the last month and their 1-0 win at home to Hellas Verona was their fourth on the spin. It was a significant result as it came just days after their unlucky Coppa Italia exit on aggregate and kept them in the hunt for a European berth.

Clearly, Lazio’s players are not ready to check in to their summer sun spots and that makes them an attractive play to pick up a fifth straight win at U-Power Stadium. A 2-1 scoreline might be about right for two teams that have not kept many clean sheets between them of late, while Monza have conceded multiple goals in four of their last five at home.
