Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

12 of Rennes’ 16 home league games this season have featured three or more goals, as have five successive away matches for visitors Lens.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Rennes have scored at least twice in their last three outings, but also conceded two or more in four of their last five at home. Opponents Lens have suffered a trio of 2-1 defeats on the road of late, but did beat Lorient 2-0 at home last week.

Rennes vs Lens Predictions

  • Four successive Rennes matches have contained three or more goals
  • There have also been 3+ strikes in five successive Lens away games
  • 75% of Rennes’ home fixtures this season have seen at least three goals scored

Can Rennes chase down their opponents?

With two games of the Ligue 1 season to go, Rennes currently sit a couple of places and four points below opponents Lens, who occupy the final European qualification space.

Victory in this match is therefore vital if they are going to break into the top six, but their form at Roazhon Park, which includes three defeats in the last four outings, inspires little confidence.

One of their issues is a leaky defence, with the 25 goals conceded by the Red and Blacks at home surpassed by only two clubs outside the relegation zone.

Five of them came in defeat to Brest a couple of weeks ago, which was a sixth time in seven outings at Roazhon Park that there have been 3+ goals, while 75% of their 16 Ligue 1 games there have also seen at least three goals scored.

Lens looking to take advantage

That could be good news for their visitors, who know a point in this fixture will keep European qualification in their hands going into the final game of the season, regardless of results elsewhere.

They have, however, lost 2-1 in three successive matches on the road, with one of those a worrying reversal against perennial strugglers Metz.

Indeed, five Blood and Gold away trips in a row have featured 3+ goals, as have seven of their most recent 11 outings at all venues.

I predict that this game will also see three or more goals scored, but that it will end in a 2-2 draw.
