Joe Hart set to leave City - Premier League rivals interested

After 10 years at the Etihad stadium, it seems that Joe Hart’s Manchester City career is finally over. He is the last of Manchester City’s pre-Arab money starting 11, but looks to have no future under Pep Guardiola. Pep is a big fan of having a keeper that can perform a sweeper role, and Hart is not the man for the job, preferring to remain close to his line.

Hart has a few potential suitors, including another team in the Premier League in the form of Everton. Koeman is looking to start a revolution at Everton and bringing in a top-quality goalkeeper is sure to help bolster his defence. The addition of Hart and Lamine Kone would give Everton a solid back 4 that will be difficult to break down, pairing that with an incredible offense if they can keep star striker Romelu Lukaku, and you may well see Everton challenging for a top 4 spot. It’s still a long shot and a lot of things need to go Koeman’s way, but it is already exciting times for Everton fans as their new look team takes shape.

Sevilla are also interested in the English number 1, however it seems unlikely that he would make the switch, even with the offer of Champions League football. However, it is yet to be seen where Hart will end up, with there still being a chance he stays at the Etihad if Pep fails to sign a new ‘keeper.

Guardiola is used to having Manuel Neuer in goal from his time at Bayern Munich, and wants his new goalkeeper to put in a similar shift and performance. Neuer is undoubtedly the best sweeper keeper in the world, making the entire role famous and shaping modern goalkeeping in the process. His closest competitor on that front is probably his Germany teammate Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who isn’t opposed to come rushing off his line himself. This tactic is high risk high return, as Neuer has found out a couple of times when he inevitably makes a mistake. However, more often than not it pays off, and with Neuer’s incredible ability with his feet, he can pull off some fancy flicks and turns to evade a defender in tight situations, something which other keepers – ones that Guardiola might be able to bring to Man City – might not be able to do with such a high rate of success.
