13:30 – JCB Triumph Hurdle

Expert tip – Vauban

This looks like a match between the two outstanding Irish juveniles Vauban and Pied Piper. Preference is for Vauban, who should have beaten Pied Piper on his hurdles debut and improved significantly when an impressive winner of a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last time.

14:10 – McCoy Contractors County Handicap Hurdle

Expert tip – Colonel Mustard

A typically wide-open running of the County Hurdle can go to Colonel Mustard. He finished third to classy pair Sir Gerhard and Three Stripe Life in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last time and those two finished first and second in the Ballymore on Wednesday.

14:50 – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Expert tip – Hillcrest

The heavy rain on Wednesday means that conditions have come right for Hillcrest and he should be hard to beat. He was a runaway winner on heavy ground when tried over this trip for the first time at Haydock last month and, if he runs to that form, he should win this race.

15:30 – Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase

Expert tip – Royale Pagaille

The softer the ground the better for Royale Pagaille and he finally has his conditions. He is a machine on testing going and showed that when carrying top weight to victory in a handicap at Haydock in January. Provided he puts in a clean round (can jump sloppily), he can go well.

16:10 – St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase

Expert tip – Winged Leader

This is a really good running of the hunter chase and it can go to exciting Irish prolific winner Winged Leader. He slammed market leader Billaway by 12 lengths off level weights at Thurles last time and I don’t see why that form should be reversed, even on softer going.

16:50 – Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase

Expert tip – Mount Ida

Mount Ida did everything wrong in the Kim Muir last year but still came through and won after trading at the maximum 1,000 in running on Betfair. She has looked even better this season and Davy Russell can be trusted to hunt her round before picking them off late here.

17:30 – Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

Expert tip – Chemical Energy

Shane Fitzgerald has made a name for himself with some big wins in Ireland this season and he looks a significant booking on Chemical Energy. He was partnered by Fitzgerald for his novice hurdle win at Fairyhouse, so his rider knows him, and was put away for this after.
