Aston Villa vs Southampton
Correct score prediction: 3-0 Southampton
Aston Villa finally saw their fate mathematically sealed last weekend as Manchester United strolled to a 1-0 win over the dismal Villains. They are now confirmed as relegated, and they come into this match having lost nine matches on the bounce and with the prospect of facing a Southampton side pushing for Europe. The Saints could move above Liverpool with a win on Saturday, and a win seems inevitable. They have netted nine goals in their last five games and I expect them to keep a clean sheet against a Villa side who have failed to score in six of their last nine games. A 3-0 win for the visitors looks good to me.
Bournemouth vs Chelsea
Correct score prediction: 2-1 Chelsea
Chelsea were on the end of a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City last time out and Guus Hiddink will be keen to avoid a 3rd straight Premier League defeat after such a long unbeaten spell. Bournemouth aren’t in good form either and come into this match having lost three of their last four matches in the Premier League. I expect the soon to be dethroned champions to have enough to see of Bournemouth on Saturday, so a standard 2-1 win for the visitors looks good.
Liverpool vs Newcastle
Correct score prediction: 3-1 Liverpool
Liverpool seem to have grown ten feet taller in the last few weeks. They were enduring a bit of a poor run of form until they hammered Stoke 4-1, and they followed this with a famous comeback as they beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 at Anfield. Their most recent success saw them demolish arch rivals Everton, and now it’s Newcastle’s turn to step into the ring. The visitors are desperate for a result to keep their fight for survival going, but I can’t see them getting one against such a determined and in form side. I’m expecting the hosts to bag a few goals against the already vulnerable Newcastle defence, and a 3-1 prediction looks the best option to me.
Charlton vs Brighton
Correct score prediction: 4-0 Brighton
Charlton confirmed their relegation on Tuesday night as they mustered a bore draw with bottom of the table Bolton, and now they will just be waiting for their torrid season to draw to a close. But they have some work to do before then. Brighton come to town on Saturday as they push for automatic promotion to the Premier League, and they have some goal difference to make up on Middlesbrough and Burnley. They have been doing all they can to cut that deficit recently though with 5-0 and 4-0 wins in their last two outings, so I’m not expecting them to go easy on Charlton on Saturday. This makes a high scoring win for the visitors likely, and 4-0 is looking attractive to me.
Hull vs Leeds
Correct score prediction: 2-1 Hull
Hull have managed to secure themselves a playoff spot in the Championship already, but with an outside chance of challenging for automatic promotion they will be going in all guns blazing in the final stretch of games. Leeds have managed to win three matches on the bounce coming into this game, but they were all against sides with nothing left to play for. Hull do have something to play for, and they have the quality to put Leeds to the sword on Saturday. The hosts have won their last two matches by 2-1 scorelines and I can see another coming here.
Middlesbrough vs Ipswich
Correct score prediction: 2-0 Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough missed out on the chance to give themselves a massive boost in the race for the Championship on Tuesday as an injury time equaliser saw title rivals Burnley salvage a point. They will be keen to bounce back in order to maintain their lead at the top of the table though, and I’m expecting them to get the three points against an Ipswich side who are winless in six matches and have seen their playoff hopes fade away in recent weeks. The visitors have only managed to net three times in their last six games and now face the prospect of trying to get past the Championship’s best defence. The hosts should be able to keep a clean sheet, and a comfortable 2-0 victory for Middlesbrough looks good to me.
