Everton vs Bournemouth
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 Bournemouth
Roberto Martinez saw the pressure on his position ramp up last weekend as his out of form Everton side got knocked out of the FA Cup. An 11th place finish and an FA Cup Semi Final is just not good enough for a club with Everton’s talents, but I don’t see their poor form ending on Saturday. The hosts will be downtrodden on all fronts as they come into this match winless in seven. Bournemouth have lost four of their last five, but have had to play some of the league’s best teams. They performed well despite their defeat against Chelsea last time out, and I expect them to perform well again and get a result this time. Everton have won just four of their 17 home games this season, so a 2-1 win for Bournemouth is certainly a reasonable prediction.
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 Newcastle
Newcastle remain in the relegation zone, but they will be feeling much more confident about their chances of staying up. Their performances have improved massively in recent weeks and their five point return from their last three matches has taken them to within a point of safety. They showed they can do it with their 3-0 win against Swansea, and I expect Crystal Palace to be coasting in the league now and just looking on to their FA Cup Final. Palace are pretty poor at the best of times, and I think they’ll find it difficult to match a desperate Newcastle side away from home. A 2-1 win for the hosts looks good to me.
Stoke vs Sunderland
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 Sunderland
Big Sam has transformed Sunderland from the disastrous team they were earlier in the season. Their defence has improved massively and they managed to claw themselves out of the drop zone with a draw against Arsenal last time out. They have only lost one of their last seven Premier League games and are coming up against a Stoke side who have shipped 12 goals in their last three. Sunderland haven’t had much issue scoring this season, so with the added incentive of remaining out of the relegation zone I think they can bag a couple of goals on Saturday. A win for the visitors looks likely to me due to Stoke’s decline in form, and 2-1 is looking the most likely outcome.
Watford vs Aston Villa
Correct Score Prediction: 1-0 Watford
Watford are coming into this game in low spirits. Their Premier League form has taken a massive hit in the 2nd half of the season and they missed out on an FA Cup Final spot last weekend when Crystal Palace beat them. However, a home match against a relegated Aston Villa side who have lost ten games in a row should get them back to winning ways. The visitors have been atrocious all season, but even so I’m not expecting a landslide for Watford due to their poor goalscoring form. A backing of 1-0 to the hosts looks reasonable to me.
West Brom vs West Ham
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 West Ham
West Brom put in an impressive display at White Hart Lane on Monday, but despite this the Baggies remain winless in six matches. Four of these six games have seen them lose, and West Ham have a lot to play for. The visitors top four hopes are fading fast and they are facing a challenge for the Europa League spots from Liverpool and Southampton. They managed to get a 3-1 win over Watford last time out though, ending their six match winless streak. This will have built confidence in the Hammers squad, and I expect them to extend West Brom’s winless streak with a 2-1 win on Saturday.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Cardiff
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 Sheff Wed
Sheffield Wednesday host Cardiff on Saturday knowing that they just need to avoid defeat to claim the final playoff spot in the Championship. The visitors are in poor form at the moment, failing to win four of their last five games and needing a last minute winner last weekend against an already relegated Bolton who played with ten men for an hour of the game. Cardiff’s need to win should make for an open game, which should suit Sheffield Wednesday well, and I think they will be able to pick the visitors off and get a 2-1 win.
