Sky Super 6 Round 3 Tips and Predictions
Aston Villa vs Bournemouth
Score Prediction: 2-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa started life back in the Premier League with a 1-3 reverse at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, though a defeat at the home of one of the strongest teams in the division is unlikely to have dampened their spirits much.
This weekend, Aston Villa host Bournemouth in the first top flight fixture held at Villa Park since 2016, and the powerful mix of adrenaline and enthusiasm that comes with such an occasion led our experts to tip Aston Villa to take the points against Bournemouth in our detailed match preview.
Bournemouth were held to a disappointing draw at home to another one of the recently promoted sides, Sheffield United, on match day one, and we think they Cherries will struggle again against one of the new boys on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s men have lost 11 of their last 14 Premier League away matches in a miserable run that stretches back to last season, and we’re backing Villa to add another defeat to that dismal sequence this week.
Brighton vs West Ham
Score Prediction: 1-0 Brighton
Brighton secured one of the shock results of the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign with their 3-0 triumph over a strong Watford team at Vicarage Road.
New Seagulls boss Graham Potter couldn’t have dreamed of a more positive start, and already the tenets of his philosophy look like they are having an impact on the Albion players’ performances.
In contrast, West Ham were left disconsolate after they were gutted 0-5 at home by champions Manchester City. The chasm in quality between the Irons and their more illustrious counterparts is almost certain to have drained West Ham’s players of all of their new season optimism.
With that considered, we’ve backed a rejuvenated Brighton to take advantage of their West Ham’s plight in our match preview ahead of the weekend, though we shouldn’t expect an avalanche of goals.
Brighton scored 1 goal or less in an incredible 16 of their 19 Premier League fixtures at the Amex Stadium in 2018/19, and we think 1 goal could be enough to earn them the points against West Ham.
Everton vs Watford
Score Prediction: 1-0 Watford
Everton took part in one of only two 0-0 draws in the opening round 2019/20 Premier League fixtures when they took a point at Crystal Palace last weekend, though Toffees fans won’t have been shocked at their team’s profligacy in front of goal.
The Blues scored a total of just 2 goals in their 5 summer friendlies, drawing 0-0 in 3 of the final of 4 of those non-competitive matches to boot. Much to the frustration of their supporters, Everton seem to have carried that toothlessness with them into the new campaign.
Watford also failed to find the net last weekend, when they were handed a treble dose of mortification by a tactically rejigged Brighton side at Vicarage Road.
However, our experts have backed the Hornets to bounce back with a positive result at Goodison Park in our Watford vs Everton match preview.
Already permanently shorn of the services of Idrissa Gueye this season, Everton will have to do without the suspended Morgan Schneiderlin and injured Andre Gomes against Watford, and that should allow the Hornets to find a match-defining ascendancy in midfield.
Norwich City vs Newcastle
Score Prediction: 2-1 Norwich City
Despite the heavy looking final 4-1 scoreline, Norwich City actually gave a good account of themselves in their Premier League opener against Liverpool at Anfield last Friday.
The Canaries attacked with purpose and penetration, and with a little more luck, they might have plundered at least another couple of goals against the European champions.
Norwich registered a notable 5 shots on target at Anfield, a total that no other Premier League club could match when visiting the red half of Merseyside last season.
City’s performance held plenty of promise, and we’ve tipped the Canaries to turn that promise into points against a patch-work Newcastle side in our preview for Saturday’s game.
The Magpies looked lost for large swathes of their defeat to Arsenal last week, and there already looks to be a worrying amount of confusion between the players, new manager Steve Bruce and his staff.
Norwich will be fired up and fully charged for their first Premier League home match since 2016, and egged on by what promises to be a vociferous Carrow Road crowd, we expect them to win.
Southampton vs Liverpool
Score Prediction: 3-1 Liverpool
Southampton got off their season off to the worst possible start against an excellent Burnley outfit at Turf Moor last week, eventually falling to a resounding 0-3 loss against the Clarets.
The Saints chances of rebounding with a win this week look slim however, when last season’s Premier League runners up and Champions League winners Liverpool make the long trip south to St. Mary’s on Saturday.
Liverpool played well within themselves in their season opener against Norwich, but despite a few scares, they took maximum points with a 4-1 win, reaffirming their reputation as one of the continent’s most clinical attackers.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have beaten Southampton in each of their last 4 meetings with the Saints, racking up an aggregate score of 11-1 in the process, and the title chaser will expect to have enhanced that record even further by the time the whistle blows on Saturday.
Millwall vs Sheffield Wednesday
Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday will put their respective unbeaten and perfect starts to the season to the test when they meet at The Den this weekend.
The Lions took four points from six in their opening brace of 2019/20 Championship fixtures in what looked a testing couple of games against Preston and WBA, before Millwall returned to the Hawthorns to knock the Baggies out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win in midweek.
Their opponents on Saturday, Sheffield Wednesday, are sitting pretty at the top of the table after two wins from two, and the Owls will be carrying a hefty amount of self-belief to with them to South East London this weekend.
Millwall and Wednesday played out a 0-0 draw when they last met in the Championship at The Den in February, and we think these two high in confidence teams will share the points again when they renew acquaintances on Saturday.
