Adelaide United vs Brisbane Roar Predictions

Neither of these sides have enjoyed the best of starts to their A-League campaigns with just one win between them so far. Adelaide United lost their opening two games of the season but since then have won the FFA Cup and claimed a win against Newcastle Jets. They will be looking to continue that momentum this weekend against a Brisbane Roar side that haven’t excelled either as yet.

Historically this fixture is quite even with Adelaide winning 20 games compared to Brisbane Roar’s 17 wins. Adelaide hold the recent advantage with a bit more authority however with The Reds winning the last three matches between the two sides.

Roar have only scored once in their opening three games of the season, a 95th minute equaliser on the opening day against Perth Glory. Since then a 1-0 defeat to Melbourne Victory and a 0-0 stalemate against Western Sydney Wanderers have signified Brisbane’s problems in the final third.

At the other end of the pitch Brisbane have been great, conceding just twice and looking very strong in defence but the side have averaged just 4.33 shots on target per game and look tepid in attack. Robbie Fowler will look to have addressed that but we think there is still further work to be done.

Adelaide United have fared a little better in front of goal but the two sides have scored just 6 goals between them so far and this looks to be another fixture where goals are at a premium. We’re confident that the 2.5 goal line won’t be beaten in this fixture and the odds represent real value.

Brisbane Roar do have the benefit of only missing Jack Hingert from their squad this week but they still look to be missing a spark in attack. Each week so far they’ve had to rely on Amadi-Holloway coming off the bench to add some physicality to the attack but this plan B won’t always see results.

Adelaide United will be missing George Blackwood for this fixture which will be a blow whilst Jordan Elsey being injured weakens them defensively. The likes of Ospeth, McGree and Troisi give them enough attacking talent to cause Brisbane Roar issues however and they should have enough in the final third to just edge things.

With Brisbane Roar struggling for goals and Adelaide United missing the midfield energy of Boland and D’Arrigo a narrow victory for the home side looks most likely. We’ve backed the 1-0 victory for Adelaide United at a price that looks too big at 17/2.
