AIK vs Hammarby Predictions
This is one of the biggest games this weekend in the Swedish Allsvenskan. It sees defending champions AIK play host to Hammarby who finished 4th last term. It is also a Stockholm derby so there’s plenty riding on this. The hosts are aiming for their 3rd straight win against Hammarby having won both meetings 1-0 last term on their way to the title.
Just two points and two places separate the sides heading into match-day 12 in this year’s Allsvenskan. However it is Malmo and not AIK who are setting the pace. The latter are finding some form though with 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 games suggesting that they are now closer to rediscovering their title-winning formula.
Hammarby are unbeaten in 6 heading into this one too though so will take confidence from that as they prepare to cross town to face one of their city rivals. They’ve only been able to draw their last 2 matches though, most recently a 2-2 draw at home against Norrkoping. Defeat here would leave them well off the pace in terms of the title race but they look like very capable European challengers again.
Overall, AIK look the more likely victors here though. Their home record this season has been good again with an average of 2.6 points per game at the Friends Arena. Their only dropped points came in their first home game of the season and they’ve reeled off 4 straight home Allsvenskan wins since then. You have to go back to July 2017 for their last home defeat in the Swedish top flight which is some record.
Hammarby meanwhile haven’t been particularly brilliant on the road. They’ve won just once in 5 away matches so far this term, the main reason why they are already 8 points off the top. Indeed it’s just 1 win in 8 away matches in all competitions for them and that kind of record suggests they won’t cause any kind of upset here. Backing AIK to Win therefore looks like the way to go.
Going for Tarik Elyounoussi to score anytime also looks good. The AIK man is in stunning form with 8 goals in his last 5 matches to soar up the Allsvenskan goalscoring rankings. He has already bettered his tally from last term.
