This game sees two of the bottom three sides meet with America Mineiro propping up the division and needing a miracle to stay up, whilst Internacional’s alarming slide suggests they could be joining them in Serie B next term.

It’s not all over for the Porto Alegre side as they are only 2 points shy of safety but with just 1 win in 17 league games, it’s looking pretty bleak for them. They haven’t won away in the league since May but won’t get a better chance than a trip to America and they do come into the game as slight favourites, which says more about their opponents than the way they are playing. They’ve already sacked two coaches this season and it would be no great shock if Celso Roth was to be axed too, certainly if they lost this game. A 1-0 home defeat in midweek to fellow strugglers Vitoria, ironically coached by the man who started the season in charge of Inter, was real cause for concern.

America to some extent can play with no pressure now as they are 14 points from safety and it’s a question of when and not if they will be relegated. They’ve played with a bit more freedom in their last two games picking up good draws on the road at Ponte Preta and Figueirense so they come into this game with a bit more confidence, although just 1 win in 16 league games for them also makes it hard to make a case for them to win this.

Both teams seem to have forgotten how to win and that is why they are in the positions they find themselves. Given that, this game seems to be destined for a draw with neither side really looking very threatening in the final third. It’s not really the result either needs but they both lack the conviction and quality to suggest one of them will bag the 3 points, so backing the draw at 2/1 looks about the best option here.
