      Amiens vs Montpellier Predictions

      • Montpellier have 21 goals in their last eleven games.
      • Montpellier’s form at home has been considerably worse with them still to win a match on the road in the league this season.
      • Amiens have won four of their last six home matches with eleven goals scored in the process.

Montpellier on the rise but poor on the road

Michel Der Zakarian’s Montpellier had a quite tricky end to 2019 with Lille, PSG and Reims all posing them issues but they have managed to bounce back in their last two matches with a 4-0 win over Brest and a 1-0 victory over fifth-tier Reims Saint-Anne in the Coupe de France. La Paillade were rather hard done by in their defeats at the tail end of 2019 with a penalty and a red card going against them. They also conceded thrice to PSG in the final fifteen minutes despite leading the lion share of the match.

Outwith that they have been extremely impressive with these defeats, all to formidable sides currently in the top six, being their only losses since mid-October. They have been very good going forward with 21 goals scored and 14 conceded in their last 11 matches, however it should be noted that five of their leaked goals came when Montpellier were a man down.

La Paillade have struggled when playing away from home though with the recent cup win over lower-league opposition their only away victory of the season in any competition. Even when travelling to struggling teams like Saint-Étienne (0-0), Metz (2-2) and Dijon (2-2) they have faltered and this will be a worry for Der Zakarian as they go to the north of France.

No place like home for Amiens

Amiens have been in some pretty poor form recently with just the one win in their last nine games. Luka Elsner’s men have really struggled across the board but in their last few games there have been signs of improvement. In their last five games they beat Rennes (3-2) and drew with Dijon (1-1) but it is their defeats that show the most interesting signs. They managed to take 3rd placed Rennes the whole 120 minutes as Amiens were knocked out of the cup on penalties and the Unicorns managed to show similar grit as they lost 2-0 to 4th placed Lille. Lille only scored after Amiens had been put down to ten men and the Unicorns will be hoping to show their determination again here in another critical match.

Despite Amiens’ misfortune in their last nine games, six of these have come away from home with their form at the Stade de la Licorne considerably better. Amiens have won four of their last six home games with victories over Marseille and Angers highlighting the quality they can show in front of their own fans. They have conceded ten goals in this time so there is still work to be done defensively but they will definitely give Montpellier a challenge here as they host la Paillade.

The hosts to get a much-needed point?

Amiens have scored eleven goals in their last six home matches and with Montpellier conceding twice in half of their last six away days, we’re backing the hosts to get some goals here. Even against weak teams like Dijon and Metz they have conceded twice, therefore we are predicting Amiens to do the same given their home form. The last clash between these teams ended 4-2 to Montpellier but the score was 1-1 before Amiens’ Ferney Otero was sent off. After that la Paillade really took control but we have more faith in the hosts this time as three of the last five clashes between these sides have ended level. The away side are in pretty good form but with their woeful displays on the road we doubt they’ll get the win here so we’re backing a 2-2 draw. We are also liking the look of the team goals market with Amiens scoring over 1.5 due to their attacking displays at home.
