Apollon Limassol vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

After three matches, Apollon find themselves sat looking up at the rest of Group H, as they’ve accumulated just a single point. Having lost by two goals to nil away in Germany a fortnight ago, the Cypriot hosts will be hoping to do better now that they’re back in their own country, though they’re not playing Europa League matches at their usual home ground, which is never ideal.

Apollon are bottom of the pile at the midway point of the group stages and it’s hard to say that they’ve been hard done by. Against Marseille on match-day two, the Greeks did compete but against both Frankfurt and Lazio, they were second best, and by some margin. However, the hosts will take heart from the fact that their best performance of the competition came in their only previous home match.

When facing Marseille at this venue, the Cypriots drew 2-2 and were good value for a point. On the one hand, as they gave little away, they were unlucky to concede twice, but they didn’t really create enough to fully warrant scoring twice, so on the balance of play, they could have few complaints. If they can defend as they did on that occasion, when giving up just 0.65 expected goals, and not how they did in Germany a fortnight ago, when giving up 2.77, then Apollon can get far more competitive.

As for Frankfurt, well the Germans are ticking along very nicely after three matches. Three matches in and Thursday’s visitors have maximum points. On match-day one, they were a tad fortunate to beat Marseille away from home, though there was nothing fortunate about either their victory against Lazio next time out or their win over Apollon in the reverse of this fixture.

With the group the way it is currently, it would be easy to assume that this is a straightforward assignment for the Bundesliga team, especially after they cantered to victory over the Cypriots two weeks ago, though there are a couple of reasons as to why this may not be so simple for the visitors.

Firstly, in their only home match Apollon did a far better job of containing the French than Frankfurt did in Marseille. Secondly, Frankfurt poorest performance in the group coincided with them playing on the road. Those two performances tell us that this may be more evenly matched than prices suggest, while they also tell us that chances may be at a premium in this fixture.

In their only previous home match, didn’t create a lot, while much of the same can be said for when Frankfurt played away on match-day one. With this in mind, a bet on ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ stands out at the prices.
