      Tip Reasoning

Argentina have come agonisingly close to breaking their major tournament duck in the past few years.

First, they made the World Cup Final in Brazil, but got ousted by an extra time winner from Mario Gotze. They followed this up by becoming finalists in the Copa America this summer, but again couldn’t hold up under the pressure and succumbed to hosts Chile on penalties.

With the match ending as a draw, it still keeps Argentina’s unbeaten record in tact, with a 7-0 thrashing of Bolivia on Saturday making it ten games without defeat for Argentina.

Argentina’s attacking trio was in the spotlight on Saturday, and the shone brightly. Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, and Ezequiel Lavezzi all bagged a brace, and also got four assists between them.

They have history on their sides against Mexico as well. They have won all of their last four games against the Central Americans, with the two before that ending as draws and Mexico winning back in 2004.

The Mexicans aren’t in particularly good form either. They have failed to beat Trinidad and Tobago twice in two months, and haven’t managed a win in normal time against Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, and Honduras since July.

This makes it just two wins in 90 minutes in their last 14 matches in all competitions, and their opponents haven’t generally been anything special.

They haven’t lost in nine matches though, but they need to get a winning mentality into their squad if they are to avoid frustration in the future.

Mexico have been involved in some high scoring matches recently, with four of the last five games ending with over 2.5 goals and a total of 22 goals being seen during that period. Argentina have also been known to run riot over poor defences, so I think odds of 5/4 for an Argentina Win and Over 2.5 Goals are very good value odds.
