Aston Villa

      Tip Reasoning

Villa’s struggles in the league are well documented but the hope is that their FA Cup draw at Wycombe and the subsequent backlash that the players received from their fans has had a positive effect. Villa won in the league for the first time since August just 3 days later by beating Crystal Palace at home and backed that up with a draw against high-flying Leicester on Saturday.

With a tie against Manchester City awaiting the winners, Wycombe will certainly be the more eager of the sides to progress and will come here with their strongest line-up and a never-say-die attitude. Villa are obviously more focused on their battle to pull off the great escape in the Premier League and will make changes here with the likes of Jack Grealish, Scott Sinclair, Rudy Gestede, Ciaran Clark and perhaps even forgotten man Gabby Agbonlahor likely to come in from the start.

The visitors were beaten 1-0 at lowly Hartlepool in the league at the weekend, which was a bit of surprise given the two clubs are at opposite ends of the division. A few minds may have already been drifting to this match and they more than held their own in the first clash when Joe Jacobson’s penalty equalised after Micah Richards’ opener for the Premier League club.

Villa have kept just 3 clean sheets in 25 outings and let in 3 goals when League Two Notts County visited in the Capital One Cup earlier in the campaign. Wycombe, perhaps with one eye on a lucrative replay, seemed to go into their shell a little in the closing stages 10 days ago when the tie looked there for the taking against a poor Villa side. They’ll have nothing to lose here so will give it a go and we could see a more open contest and backing both teams to score at 6/5 seems like a solid bet given that Villa are prone to making mistakes at the back.

The Premier League side should still edge it though and Remi Garde will be keen to continue the momentum they have built up from their last 2 results. At 15/2 you can back Villa to win 2-1 and stretch their unbeaten run to 4 games.
