Augsburg vs Hertha Berlin Predictions

Augsburg bounced back from a patch of bad form with a 2-0 win away to second from bottom Ingolstadt just before the international break. Prior to this, Augsburg were without a win in five across a set of difficult fixtures. Meanwhile, Hertha are starting to show that last season’s twenty week-long stint within the top four was not a fluke. Berlin’s dominant 3-0 win at home to Borussia M’gladbach last time out put them equal on points with 3rd place Hoffenheim. Hertha have, however, been uninspiring in their recent performances on the road, particularly in their last away match against Hoffenheim where they registered just 5 attempts on goal in a 1-0 defeat. The Berliners are without an away win in four matches (D2 L2) but it must be noted that, similarly to Augsburg, their bad patch of form has come from a difficult set of fixtures against Bayern Munich and inform sides Hoffenheim, Frankfurt and Dortmund – the latter two of which Hertha managed to claim a point against.

Though Augsburg are the bookies’ favourites ahead of this match at 11/8, we feel that Hertha are the better value here despite their “poor” form on the road. Notably, Hertha mixed things up by starting ex-Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou, who has come off the bench a few times this season, alongside top scoring striker Vedad Ibisevic (6 goals in 10 appearances) for the first time against Borussia M’gladbach. Kalou didn’t waste the opportunity to prove his worth in Hertha’s starting 11 and bagged himself all three goals for a hat-trick in their 3-0 win. His explosive impact should no doubt prove to be the boost the Berliners need to take away all three points and Kalou himself would be a decent shout for an anytime goalscorer bet here.

Augsburg versus Hertha Berlin has been a boring affair in recent years – all of the last 6 meetings between them have had under 2.5 goals scored (three 1-0 wins and three 0-0 draws). However, it should likely play out a bit different this time around as both sides are in decent scoring form; Augsburg’s aren’t afraid to get men forward which has seen them score at least one goal in each of their last six matches, including scoring once both times home and away to Bayern Munich, while Hertha have only failed to score in one of their last 6 Bundesliga matches. Statistical analysis of both sides further favours this market: both teams have scored in 3 of Augsburg’s 4 most recent home (75%) and in 2 of Hertha’s most recent 3 Bundesliga away matches (66%).

Based on the above, we should expect end to end football making both teams to score at 10/11 with bet365 a decent bet here. We also expect Hertha’s new formula to be enough to see them come out on top. Considering that both teams have scored in all four of Augsburg most recent defeats (two 2-1 defeats and two 3-1 defeats) – all of which are within the Bavarians last six outings – and that Hertha are scoring an average of two goals per match, we feel that Hertha to win 2-1 at 10/1 also seems decent odds for a correct score bet.
