Azerbaijan vs Norway Predictions

Azerbaijan generally take residence towards the bottom of their qualification tables for major tournaments, and last time was no exception as they finished 5th in their Euro 2016 group. Their six points were enough to outperform Malta, but they were some 13 points off the playoff position of 3rd.

They are likely to end up in the same position again this time round, but they started the campaign in promising fashion as they beat minnows San Marino 1-0 away from home. The home clash there should provide another easy three points, but they will be hoping to gain some more points from somewhere. Home matches against the likes of Northern Ireland and Norway are promising fixtures for them.

Azerbaijan’s win against San Marino made it two wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last six outings. At home they have only lost four of their last 14 matches as well, also keeping a clean sheet seven times in that period.

This won’t come as good news for Norway fans. Their team kicked off their campaign with a predictable 3-0 loss at home to Germany, with this defeat making it seven losses, one draw, and two wins in their last ten outings.

This includes their playoff defeat to Hungary as they looked to qualify for Euro 2016. They failed there, and it looks unlikely that they will have enough about them to make it to the World Cup. Germany and Czech Republic are the front-runners for the top two spots, but Northern Ireland will also put up a fight and Norway could find themselves up against it.

Away from home their last outing saw them lose to Belgium. This made it five games without a win on the road for them. They have won three of their last 13 away days, but they have lost eight of them.

Their main problem is going forward. Their selected squad only has 29 international goals between them and they have failed to score in five of their last nine matches. This isn’t good news when they’re facing an Azerbaijan side who have managed seven clean sheets in their last 13 home games. I think this gives the home side a real chance to increase their points tally, and odds of 19/20 for an Azerbaijan Win or Draw Double Chance look excellent value. I’m backing a 0-0 correct score prediction at 6/1 as well.
