Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez was the standout performer in Bayer Leverkusen’s dramatic 3-2 win over Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga last weekend and in their midweek 1-1 draw away to Monaco in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. Hernandez took himself to four goals in five Bundesliga appearances after he bagged himself a superb “perfect” hat-trick in the former. His opening left footed goal, followed by one on his right foot, brought Leverkusen level twice against Mainz before an uncharacteristic headed goal from the Mexican in the 92nd minute sealed only their second win of the season. Another close range header from Chicharito in the 73rd minute should have sealed Leverkusen their first European win in the Champions League. However, Leverkusen were unlucky ,as Monaco equalised against the run of play in the 94th minute with a stunning volley from outside the penalty box.
Borussia Dortmund are no doubt in a confident mood after their dominate performance over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. Though Dortmund were unlucky to only take away a point from a 2-2 draw, a late 87th minute equaliser from substitute Andre Schurrle no doubt made it feel more like a win. Dortmund have shown that they can play at their best, against the best. Their free-flowing style of football is simply unstoppable at the moment. Dortmund have scored 22 goals in their last five competitive matches, an average of 4.4 goals per game, and they come into this off the back of three huge Bundesliga wins (one 6-0, one 5-1 and one 3-1 win).
Though Roger Schmidt’s side are unbeaten at home since March earlier this year, maintaining that record against the in-form Dortmund is not exactly going to be straightforward. Leverkusen haven’t won a home game against Dortmund in over nine years (D5 L4) and have failed to score in any of the last three meetings between them, losing two ‘to nil’ and drawing the other 0-0. To make matters worse, Leverkusen’s star striker Chicharito has scored all of his last seven goals on the road. Meanwhile, though Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is certainly “in form” (5 goals in four Bundesliga matches), they don’t have to rely solely on him. Dortmund have had nine different goalscorers this season, more than any other club in the Bundesliga. Though things definitely look on the up for Leverkusen, we just don’t feel they’ll be quite up for the challenge here.
As such, Borussia Dortmund to win at 23/20 and Borussia Dortmund to win 3-1 at 14/1 with bet365 are our choice bets for this match.
