Belgium vs San Marino Predictions

Belgium are expected to continue their perfect start in Euro 2020 qualifying this week as they host San Marino. The Red Devils are set to book their place at the tournament on Thursday. They head into this meeting with the group minnows needing just one more win to wrap up a spot at Euro 2020, so there’s little chance that Roberto Martinez and co. will have to wait much longer to get out of this group.

Belgium’s six wins from six has left them three points clear at the top, while they are 11 clear of second-placed Kazakhstan. A victory here will put them out of reach and into the draw for the Euros. That’s a decent prize for Martinez and his men, given that we’re just over half-way through the campaign. There’s little doubt that Belgium will do it, especially given the visitors’ struggles.

San Marino have lost their last 33 internationals. They come into this clash with plenty of thumping defeats in this group, as they’re bottom with a -28 goal difference. The visitors have failed to score in every group game so far, while they’ve been routinely hammered by every side in the pool. They meet Belgium for the sixth time this century, having conceded 28 times in those previous clashes.

Belgium are as strong now as they’ve ever been. They should be able to match their 2005 8-0 victory in this fixture, especially looking at the visitors’ record. They went down 9-0 at Russia earlier in the group, while they’ve lost 5-0 at Cyprus and 4-0 at Kazakhstan. Their form points to a heavy loss, especially after losing 8-0 twice in the last round of World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Belgium are out to continue a winning streak that has seen them win to nil in their last five outings. They should put on a show going forward against a poor San Marino side. Given how the away side have been playing of late, we don’t have much hope for them. When you consider Belgium’s 8-1 win over Estonia and 9-0 victory against Gibraltar at home in World Cup qualifying, Belgium -6 looks like good value in our eyes. We are also backing an 8-0 victory for the Red Devils here.
