Bolton vs Doncaster Predictions
To say that times are troubled at the University of Bolton Stadium would be an understatement. The Wanderers find themselves in the middle of a standoff surrounding the potential takeover of the club, and the ongoing financial problems are taking their toll on the squad.
Unpaid wages to the first team squad has resulted in Bolton boss Phil Parkinson being forced to field a host of youth players this term, and against Coventry on matchday 2 the average age of the playing squad was a touch over 19 – Their youngest ever squad fielded in a league fixture.
A similarly youthful starting 11 was fielded against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday as the troubled club were battered 5-0 by the newly promoted club. Phil Parkinson is already raising concerns over the welfare of these young players as they prepare for their third competitive match in a week.
For Doncaster, this is a great chance for them to pick up another 3 points. The Rovers clinched a 90th minute winner against Fleetwood on Saturday to earn their first win of the season, although with their previous 2 League One outings ending all square they remain unbeaten in the league this season.
Last term, Donny battle to a 6th place finish before ultimately failing to progress in the playoffs. They will be aiming for another promotion push this year, and a win on Tuesday could potentially see them move up to 3rd in the table.
Simply put, a win is the least that’s expected of Doncaster as they go up against a makeshift Bolton squad filled with teenagers. The Wanderers are yet to score a league goal this season and have shipped 10 goals in their last 2 competitive games.
Bolton’s attacking problems extend even further back though. They haven’t scored a league goal since April, failing to net in each of their last 9 matches and losing all but one of those.
Doncaster are by no means the best side defensively, but they have only conceded 5 goals in their 4 competitive games this season and they should have enough about them to keep the hosts off the scoresheet. We’re backing a Doncaster Win to Nil here, but considering they aren’t the best side going forward either we’re only going for a 2-0 correct score prediction.
