Bolton vs Hull Predictions
Hull City come into this game in improved form, which is very timely given the play-offs are just around the corner. A trip to the bottom club offers them a good chance to continue building some momentum and they should have too much quality for Bolton on the day. The Tigers are unbeaten in 5 games now after a horrible 4-0 defeat at Derby, the side they are almost certain to be up against in the play-offs. A win here would all but guarantee that Hull would have home advantage in the 2nd leg which could be significant so they do have some incentive to win the game beyond just building some confidence and form.
Bolton have had a nightmare season and with 27 points from 44 games they are guaranteed to finish bottom of the Championship whatever happens over the final couple of games. They’ve competed pretty well in their last 3 games but the all too familiar late capitulations have come to haunt them again. They were leading Championship table toppers Middlesbrough 1-0 a fortnight ago at home only to concede twice in the final 20 minutes including a stoppage time goal and lose 2-1. Last weekend almost exactly the same thing happened at Cardiff, with Zach Clough, the one real bright spark of their season giving them an early lead only for them to eventually succumb to another last gasp winner.
They battled bravely with only 10 men in that game so there is still some fight in this Bolton team and they have only lost one home game all season by more than 1 goal so Hull are unlikely to walk away with this. However Bolton’s tendency to concede 2nd half goals particularly late on suggests backing Hull to win the Second Half at 3/4 might be a good idea here. The Lancashire side have conceded winning goals in the final 5 minutes of 4 of their last 6 home games.
