Borussia Dortmund vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

After a dismal first half of the season last term even a late resurgence couldn’t get Borussia Dortmund into the Champions League. As such, they ended up qualifying for the Europa League, and came into the tournament as hot favourites in many people’s eyes.

They faltered a bit in the group stages, qualifying second in their group and drawing Porto in the first knockout round. A 3-0 aggregate win over them got them to this stage, and they are now coming up against one of the other tournament favourites: Tottenham Hotspur.

The visitors have emerged as genuine Premier League title contenders after a crazy season, and their form has led to them being tipped for the Europa League as well.

Both of these sides are aiming for their domestic titles this season. Borussia Dortmund have managed to narrow the gap at the top of the Bundesliga to just five points, with a goalless draw against leaders Bayern Munich at the weekend keeping the gap the same after the leaders fell to defeat last week.

Spurs’ played out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Saturday, a result which allowed Premier League leaders Leicester to pull away at the top of the table, meaning they are also five points adrift of the top spot.

The team selection from both managers will be interesting for this one. Obviously both teams will want to win the Europa League, but neither will have foreseen them still being in the title race at this point. Famous domestic title wins will take precedent for both sides, but I’m still expecting strong teams to be named for this tie.

Borussia Dortmund have been sensational in attack this season, and while they have slowed down a bit recently they are still averaging two goals per game over their last six home matches.

Spurs are also being lauded for their attacking talent including the likes of Christia Eriksen, Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and the reformed Erik Lamela. This has led to them scoring 13 goals in their last six away days in all competitions.

This makes odds of 3/4 for Over 2.5 Goals look excellent value to me. I think Borussia Dortmund will get the win at home though, so I’m also going for a 2-1 correct score prediction at 7/1.
