Borussia Monchengladbach vs Fortuna Dusseldorf Predictions
Monchengladbach haven’t had the most convincing start to the 2019/20 season. Despite some unimpressive performances from their opening 4 games, they find themselves sitting in 7th place in the table.
Die Fohlen managed to secure a tight 1-0 victory in the Rheinland derby last week away to FC Koln. Though not as storied a rivalry as last week’s fixture, they will welcome another local rival to Borussia-Park this week in the form of Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Fortuna, this season, look like a similar team to the one we came to know last season. As Bundesliga newcomers, Fortuna ended last season with the worst defensive record outside of the bottom four. True to character, Fortuna have still been struggling on the defensive end this season.
Fortuna have failed to keep a single clean sheet in all competitions, so far this season. At the other end of the pitch, Fortuna have also scored in all of their games this season.
Monchengladbach’s defence is also looking leaky at present. Sunday’s game will come off the back of Monchengladbach’s heaviest ever European defeat. They suffered a 4-0 loss at home to Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in midweek. Both sides have goals in them, along with questionable backlines. We believe that this game is likely to see both teams getting on the scoresheet.
Fortuna will continue to feel the absence of the impressive American defensive midfielder, Alfredo Morales. Morales picked up a groin strain on international duty and is unlikely to be fully fit for the weekend. This will significantly weaken Fortuna’s midfield, and defensive strength.
We believe that there is potential for goals in this fixture. There has been over 2.5 goals in 7 of Fortuna’s last 8 away games. We feel that there is a strong likelihood that this game will see over 2.5 goals scored.
Fortuna’s second consecutive Bundesliga season is looking likely to be a difficult one for them. They haven’t won since their opening game of the season, and this weekend’s game will be a tough one vs a side who will be expecting to secure European football for the second season in a row.
We feel that Monchengladbach will be able to bounce back from their midweek defeat to secure another local derby victory. It will be a tough, nervy, but winnable game for them. We feel that a 2-1 scoreline could be worth a shout.
