Burton Albion vs Blackburn Rovers Predictions
This is a massive game for both clubs. Burton can move 7 points clear of the drop-zone with a win, while Blackburn can move level on points with Bristol City in 21st if they come away with the victory. Right now though that looks unlikely, with Burton in pretty good form and the East Midlands club are certainly capable of winning this.
Given the importance of the game, it’s a bit of a surprise that Blackburn parted company with Owen Coyle on Tuesday, just 72 hours before it. They’ve acted swiftly in fairness in appointing Tony Mowbray as their new boss but he’ll have had precious little time to work with his new players ahead of this one.
Recent performances haven’t been disastrous under Coyle and they pushed Man United pretty close in the FA Cup at the weekend. Only 1 of their last 34 matches have resulted in defeats by a margin of greater than 1 goal so Rovers have been as competitive as could have been expected given they do lack quality in some key areas of the pitch. Their overall away record though really doesn’t make for pleasant reading. Blackburn have only taken 2 points from their last 6 Championship away games and they average just 0.6 points per game away from Ewood.
66% of Burton’s points this term have come at home and given Rovers have lost 67% of their Championship away matches, they’ll be really targeting 3 points here. Burton’s form is good too, with 10 points from their last 6 league games. This is the first of two massive back-to-back six-pointers, given they visit Bristol City next weekend and Nigel Clough will know full well how important these games are.
The Brewers look to be over their rough patch and the January additions of Michael Kightly and Cauley Woodrow have gone a long way to increasing their attacking threat. Woodrow has 2 goals in 4 games for Burton so far and has netted in Burton’s last two home games. Given that, backing Woodrow to score anytime at 11/5 looks to offer value, especially with this Blackburn defence still leaking goals.
Overall a home win looks the most likely outcome. It’s hard to see the new manager really significantly improving this Blackburn side, certainly not as immediately as this game. Aside from a poor run around the festive programme, Burton have been strong at home given they are the smallest club in the league and backing Burton to Win at 5/4 looks to offer value.
