Tip Reasoning

Having held a strong position for such a long time, form has eluded the hosts at exactly the wrong time. While other teams have stepped up during the run in, Cadiz have regressed, as they’ve failed to win any of their last seven matches. They may have only lost once during that time, but a lack of wins may just cost them their place in the play-offs.

Unlike Monday’s hosts, Zaragoza come into this fixture off the back of a pleasing win last time out. The visitors currently occupy a healthy position, though with a stack of teams queuing up behind them, one of which is Cadiz, who’re just two points behind their opponents here, they need to maintain the winning thread. Cadiz may be a side struggling for wins, but they’re not easily beaten, so the visitors aren’t likely to have it all their own way at La Romareda.

The hosts may not be in the best of form, but they’re certainly no mugs on their own patch. In fact, Cadiz are extremely hard to get the better of when playing their football in front of a home crowd. Álvaro Cervera’s men have lost just once at home all season. Having scored a rather unassuming 22 goals in 19 matches at La Romareda, they’ve not exactly been too hot in front of goal (though not too cold either), but they’ve defended immensely well. Having conceded just nine goals at home this season, the hosts have been by far the toughest team to pass on their own patch.

Not only do Cadiz have an overall home record that is impressive, especially from a defensive point of view, but they have a home record against top-six sides that is equally pleasing. Again, they’ve been anything but prolific against the better teams at home, but they’ve been rock-solid defensively, conceding just one goal in five matches against teams currently in the top six. What’s more, they’re unbeaten in those five.

Compared to their hosts, Zaragoza have almost definitely been a more forward-thinking team, though they’ve not been too clever defensively away from home, particularly in matches against the better teams. The visitors have won three of their six away matches against teams currently in the top eight, but they’ve kept just a single clean sheet during that time and have conceded a rather worrying ten goals. Given the hosts defensive profile on home soil, it’s easy to see the visitors being frustrated before being made to pay.

Having recently kept things very tight against Huesca and Gijon, both of whom are currently in the top six, the hosts should be confident of keeping Zaragoza at bay. A combination of the visitors easy-to-breach rear-guard and the fact that Cadiz have given next to nothing away on home soil can allow the hosts to resume winning ways. If they can continue to keep things tight at the back, scoring against a Zaragoza team who’ve given plenty away in this type of match shouldn’t be too difficult.
