Cambuur Leeuwarden vs FC Dordrecht Predictions

After four games without a win and just three victories from their last 14 league starts, Cambuur are seriously back pedalling heading into this Friday’s fixture against Dordrecht. Rene Hake’s side are now down to 14th in the table following last week’s 1-0 defeat at Roda JC, and they sit four points behind the Play-off places with 13 rounds of the season to go. The Leeuwarden outfit simply have to stop the rot here against Schappenkoppen to keep their hopes of finishing in the top nine alive.

The damage was done early on in Kerkrade last week as Livio Milts netted what proved to be the winning goal for Roda JC just four minutes in. Cambuur failed to land a significant blow despite dominating possession with 60% of the ball, and that’s been a fairly consistent theme this term for Rene Hake’s side.

Although they have netted in 19 of their 25 Eerste Divisie fixtures, Cambuur have one of the lowest goal tallies in the second tier with just 32 scored overall – a key reason why they are persistently failing to secure positive results week to week.

Bagging once in this free scoring league is rarely enough to win any fixture, and Cambuur have done just that or worse in 60% of their league matches this term.

One of those games was October’s reverse fixture against Dordrecht at Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadion, where struggling Schappenkoppen recorded one of their four league victories this season with a 3-1 win.

Claudio Braga’s men were outclassed by 4th placed Sparta Rotterdam in a 1-4 home defeat on match day 25, but things had previously been looking up for the club since the Portuguese manager took over, with seven points amassed from their five other games so far in 2019.

It means Dordrecht are currently winning the battle of the bottom four who are at least seven points detached from the rest, which is decent progress considering that they were propping up the league just a few weeks ago.

Braga’s side go into this week’s encounter having lost just one of their last five on the road, and that makes their odds of just under the 4/1 mark look extremely tempting here when you also factor in how poor Cambuur have been on their own patch of late.

The hosts have failed to win any of their last six league matches in Leeuwarden, so odds of around 8/13 for a Cambuur victory this Friday really don’t stack up.

The safe play here then appears to be in the double chance market, and we can’t resist tipping up the visitors to pinch at least a point on match day 26.

There will be huge pressure on Cambuur to notch a first win in seven at home, especially against a team lower than them in the table, and we think the visitors can frustrate them.

Schappenkoppen are starting to prove that they can be competitive on a regular basis with the teams in and around mid-table, and a 1-1 draw is our predicted scoreline for the action at Cambuurstadion.
