Cardiff vs Ipswich Predictions
This is a crunch game in race for the top six which is developing into an intriguing battle. The top four look assured of at least a play-off spot with Derby likely to join them. However just 2 points separate 6th placed Sheffield Wednesday from Birmingham in 9th with Cardiff and Ipswich sandwiched between those two clubs. The winners here would take some real momentum into the next round of games.
Both sides have been in solid recent form but suffered midweek setbacks. Cardiff had suffered just 1 defeat in 9 going into a home game with struggling Leeds but sank to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the Cardiff City Stadium, where they have a good record this season. They had gone 13 matches unbeaten at home in the league prior to that so it was a real shock result.
Ipswich meanwhile were at bottom club Bolton and were gunning for a 3rd straight win that would have elevated them into the top six. They went 2-0 in front when Christophe Berra popped up to score in the 72nd minute but contrived to concede soon afterwards and then again late in stoppage time to throw away 2 points that they would have dearly loved and may live to regret.
This game is tough to call with Cardiff strong at home and Ipswich good on the road where they have already won 8 times in the league this season. Both teams like to play football and goals seem likely. Both teams have scored in 7 of the last 10 matches at the Cardiff City Stadium in the Championship and Ipswich have only failed to score in 5 of their last 25 away matches in this division. Therefore backing both teams to score at 10/11 appeals here.
