- Carlisle have failed to score in their last three home matches.
- Plymouth Argyle have kept a clean sheet in 33% of their away matches.
Goals at a premium
It has been a pretty difficult end of 2019 for Carlisle United as they have only managed to secure one victory in their previous eight outings. The hosts lack of form has unsurprisingly left them struggling at the wrong end of the table and even though Cumbria has historically been a tough place for visiting teams to earn a positive result, they have not exactly made Brunton Park the fortress it was previously known as.
The Cumbrians have only managed three wins on home soil so far in the league this season and after failing to find the back of the net in each of their previous three home league matches, it is easy to see why. It is not as if that is a record which has just been a recent issue either as they have failed to score in half of their league matches at Brunton Park this term.
Confidence is high with the visitors
The latest side to make the trip to Brunton Park in the hope of a vital three points is a Plymouth Argyle side who have been going well of late. The visitors come into this match having won six of their last eight league matches and, even though they are perhaps stronger in front of their own fans, the fact that they have won three of their last four away matches suggests that they are more than capable of upsetting their hosts’ afternoon.
Argyle may be well placed in terms of the goalscoring table, but it is noticeable that when they are on the road they tend to keep things tight and the fact that they have kept a clean sheet in around a third of their away league matches this term is certainly a positive they can take into this weekend’s fixture.
A tight game, but one clear favourite
Any time a side makes a trip to Cumbria, they know that they are probably not going to have an easy time of things. However, this particular fixture sees a Carlisle side who are short of confidence and goals at the moment coming up against a Plymouth side who are at the top of their game. While we do not expect it to be a walkover, an away win appears to be the way to go.
In terms of our correct score tip, as we have previously stated, we do not expect there to be a big gap between the sides. The hosts have averaged just 0.83 goals per game at home this term and come into this match having failed to score in their last three matches at Brunton Park. Meanwhile the visitors average just 1.08 goals per game on the road and are in good form at present. All in all, we believe a 1-0 away win looks to be the most likely outcome.
