Celta Vigo vs Ajax Predictions
Ajax have made a perfect start in the Europa League, but can they continue that away to Celta Vigo? The Spanish side are unbeaten after two games, and they’ll have their eye on top spot. Can they claim the three points they need to leapfrog Ajax? That’s going to be a tough ask against a side who are in fantastic form.
Ajax have put together an impressive run of nine straight victories across all competitions. The Eredivisie side are looking to chase down Feyenoord domestically, but they’ll also want to push for Europa League success. They were dumped out of the Champions League in the qualifiers, but they can achieve much more in UEFA’s second tier competition.
Are they fully focused on this competition right now? Their weekend meeting with Feyenoord has to be a factor here. The side from Rotterdam have a perfect record in the league this season, so Ajax need to beat them to stay in contention for the title. While they should still be competitive in midweek, that nine game winning run could be about to go.
This is a dangerous game for Ajax anyway. They face a strong La Liga side, one who have scored in 80% of their matches this season. They have really hit scoring form in their recent games, having scored eight times in just three matches at home. Among those games was a 4-3 victory over Barcelona, as they beat the Catalans here for the second season running.
Celta scored twice in their last home game in the Europa League, but this will be more of a contest. They kept a clean sheet against Panathinaikos, but this will be much tougher. The Spaniards concede two goals a game on average in La Liga, and they could be set to do the same here. Ajax have three goals in two Europa League games, and they’ve scored four or above in their last four away.
The Dutch side score from 10% of their chances in this competition, while their conversion rate is 12% in the Eredivisie. They should be able to keep up their strong scoring rate in Vigo, but we can’t see them keeping a clean sheet. Their last European away clean sheet came back in August 2015, against Jablonec. We’re backing both attacks to come out on top here, so we’ve gone with over 2.5 goals at 19/20 with bet365.
