Cerro Porteno vs Corinthians Predictions
It is going to take a good team to get the better of Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores this season. The Brazilians suffered a rare defeat at the weekend losing 2-0 to Santos in the Paulista but are still on course to cruise into the latter stages and they have made a strong start to the Copa Libertadores by winning their opening two group games 1-0 against Cobresal and Santa Fe. They had to work for both wins with 2nd half goals proving decisive but once again demonstrated their defensive solidity.
This is their toughest ask yet though away in Paraguay against Cerro Porteno and they are only very marginal favourites for the win. Cerro Porteno aren’t in great form and have lost all of their last 3 domestic games but like many sides tend to prioritise this competition in terms of selection during this period and they’ve also made a very good start to the Libertadores taking 4 points from their opening 2 matches after an impressive draw in Bogota against Santa Fe prior to a 2-1 home win over Cobresal last time out.
With the bookies struggling to choose a favourite and both teams in strong positions in the group this game is one that really looks a nailed on draw. It is a result that would probably suit both clubs too and would ensure the pair would occupy the top two positions in the group going into the Second half of the campaign. We shouldn’t read too much into Cerro Porteno’s recent results including their weekend 2-1 defeat at home to Nacional Asuncion which was largely shaped by a sending off to Jorge Gonzalez when Cerro were leading 1-0. They will be wary of the quality of their opponents here but Corinthians have been fairly cagey so far too this season and backing a 0-0 draw at 13/2 looks a solid punt here.
