Chelsea vs Liverpool Predictions
Chelsea’s perfect start to the Premier League season ended on Sunday as they disappointingly drew away to Swansea. They went a goal to the good through Diego Costa in the first half but two goals in three minutes from Swansea, one of which was highly controversial, put the South Wales outfit 2-1 up. Chelsea kept pushing as they looked for an equaliser and eventually got one as Diego Costa scored an overhead kick nine minutes from time.
This has to go down as two points dropped for Antonio Conte’s side, but their performances prior to this in the Premier League have been promising. They have beaten West Ham, Watford, and Burnley in the Premier League and also secured a 3-2 victory over Bristol Rovers in the League Cup.
However, every point counts, and in a Premier League title race that could come down to the wire, they might live to regret those five minutes of complacency at Swansea. Chelsea currently sit 2nd in the Premier League, two points behind the perfect record of Manchester City and a point ahead of Manchester United.
Liverpool have had a much more inconsistent season. They began with a thrilling 4-3 win at the Emirates against Arsenal but followed it with a 2-0 loss at the newly promoted Burnley. They had around 80% possession in this match but fell to two counter attacking goals as they failed to break down a stern defence. They made up for it though, with a 5-0 thrashing of Burton Albion.
Jurgen Klopp’s side followed this with a 1-1 draw at Spurs, but Saturday evening saw them clinch a fantastic 4-1 win at home to the Premier League champions Leicester. Roberto Firmino got off the mark this season with two goals on Saturday, whilst Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana bagged one apiece to continue their promising start to the season.
Both of these sides have looked excellent going forward this season, with them scoring 18 goals between them. However, Chelsea have conceded in three of their four outings and Liverpool are yet to keep a Premier League clean sheet.
Looking back into last season as well, Chelsea have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 home games in the Premier League, with them scoring in 12 of them and seeing at least three goals in ten of them. Liverpool have conceded in ten of their last 11 away games in the Premier League, scoring in all but two of them and seeing at least three goals in seven of them.
This points towards a high scoring match to kick off a weekend of Premier League action, and odds of 1/1 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score look good value for money. I’m going for a high scoring 3-2 win for Chelsea at huge odds of 25/1 as well.
