Chicago Fire vs Montreal Impact Predictions
Chicago Fire finished rock bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference last season, and while they are still struggling to pick up the maximum points haul they do seem to have improved significantly during the off season.
They did kick off their season with a 4-3 defeat at home to New York City, but since then they have managed to avoid defeat, playing out three draws and one victory.
Despite their thrilling start to the season their play since then has been a bit dull to be honest. There have been just three goals scored in total in their four games since then, two of them coming from Chicago Fire. This does represent a marked improvement to their back line though, an improvement that should help them secure a better finishing position this season.
Montreal Impact kicked their season off with a bang as well, with a 3-2 away victory against Whitecaps clearly marking their intention to improve on their 3rd place finish in the MLS Eastern Conference last season. They followed it with a 3-0 win over New York Red Bulls, but they dropped off the boil a bit after that.
They failed to score in their following two matches as they were defeated by FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders, but did manage to get back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Columbus Crew.
The recent poor form going forward means that I’m not expecting a high scoring match on Saturday. None of Chicago Fire’s last four matches have seen two or more goals scored, and Montreal Impact have seen the same outcome in their last three outings. These two teams have scored a total of four goals between them in their last seven combined fixtures.
This makes odds of 17/20 for Under 2.5 Goals look incredibly attractive, and I’m backing that alongside a 1-1 draw at 11/2.
