Columbus Crew vs Whitecaps Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

Columbus Crew don’t look like they’re going to make it into the all important MLS playoffs at the moment, which would be seen as a massive disappointment after their 2nd place finish in the Eastern Conference last term and their run all the way to the MLS Cup Final.

They have just eight games remaining in the regular MLS season and find themselves down in 9th position. The eight points they need to make up before they reach the top six is certainly achievable, but considering their form throughout the season, it could be a stretch for them.

Columbus Crew lost last time out when they visited LA Galaxy last weekend, with this defeat making it three losses, four draws, and two wins from their last nine matches in the MLS. They’ve only won two of their last 14 matches in all competitions, although at home they have proven difficult to beat. They’ve only lost twice at home all season, and in their last eight home games in the MLS they have drawn six times, won once, and lost once.

Whitecaps aren’t in the best of shape either. They also finished 2nd in their conference last season, and they also find themselves struggling to break into the top six this season. They come into this game in 8th position with a four point gap to make up on 6th placed Portland Timbers.

Their form is on a similar level to Columbus Crew too, with just two of their last 11 outings ending in victory and five of them ending in defeat. Away from home it doesn’t change much, with seven defeats, two draws, and two wins in their last 11 games on the road.

Both of these teams are really struggling to find victories this season, and despite Whitecaps’ awful away form I think Columbus Crew will have difficulty beating them as well. They have drawn six of their last eight games at home, so odds of 5/2 for another stalemate look excellent value for money. I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2 as well.
