Costa Rica vs Haiti Predictions
In truth it rarely is with Costa Rica whose well-organised defensive outlook saw them fare very well at the last World Cup. They obviously have fond memories of their time in Brazil when they narrowly missed out on a shock Semi-Final appearance, by losing their last 8 shoot-out against the Netherlands and will be hopeful of a strong start here.
Little has changed in their style of play over the past 18 months despite managerial changes which have seen Paolo Wanchope come and go with Óscar Ramírez currently in charge. Results under Wanchope weren’t good and the first 4 games under Ramirez have all finished 1-0 with defeats against Brazil and South Africa but impressive wins over Uruguay and USA.
It’s a very solid start for the former Costa Rican international but they remain Costa Rica’s only 2 wins in 13 matches in 2015 and they very rarely win big. El Salvador, Canada and Jamaica all held them to draws at the Gold Cup and Haiti are a side on a par with certainly the first two of those.
The Carribbean islanders are a much improved outfit these days. A shock 1-0 win over Honduras saw them reach the Gold Cup Quarter Finals where they were only beaten 1-0 by Jamaica and they’ve won all three matches since then.
They’ve only been beaten by more than 1 goal, once in their last 17 matches and they have faced the likes of Chile and USA in that run. Therefore consider backing Haiti with a + 1.5 Asian Handicap here at 17/20.
Costa Rica haven’t exactly been in the goals of late, scoring just twice in their last 6 matches but they should still have just enough to nick this 1-0 and you can back that to be the case at 4/1.
