Cruzeiro vs Internacional Predictions

Thursday’s Brazilian Cup semi final, first leg action sees Cruzeiro doing battle with Internacional at the Estadio Mineirão. The visitors will be looking to take a positive result with them back to Porto Alegre against the out of form hosts.

Coming into the year expecting to compete on all fronts, it’s fair to say 2019 is swiftly turning into a nightmare for Cruzeiro and they come into this game under huge pressure. The side were last week eliminated from the Copa Libertadores and are currently in the relegation zone of the Serie A table, meaning the cup is the only title they have left to play for.

A weak performance in a 2-0 derby defeat to Atletico Mineiro at the weekend has enraged supporters and morale in home ranks is at rock bottom, with Raposa in a terrible run of form that doesn’t look like ending anytime soon. Indeed, Cruzeiro have won just 1 of their last 17 competitive matches and having also failed to even so much as score a single goal in their last 7 outings, they couldn’t arrive in a worse state coming into this match.

Meanwhile, Internacional are running along nicely and are having a strong season so far. Colorado are into the quarter finals of the Copa Libertadores, currently stand 6th in the league and having seen off strong opposition in the form of Palmeiras to reach this point of a Brazilian Cup they’ll now be looking to win.

Internacional did lose 2-1 to Fluminense at the weekend, but said result was mainly as a result of them resting players for this match. Prior to that defeat in Rio, the visitors had won 3 matches in a row and their performances in the cup and Libertadores so far this year have already shown they can handle the heat of knockout competitions, leaving confidence high prior to arrival in Belo Horizonte.

Ultimately, it’s Internacional who look the far more likely to win this tie over the two legs and book their place in the final and their chances also look high when viewing this first leg as a standalone fixture. Cruzeiro are in off field crisis, have just sold their best player in Lucas Romero and have been utterly awful on the pitch for a number of months now, meaning they are highly unlikely to get the better of a strong Inter side.

As such, the odds on offer for this game make little sense and backing Internacional on the Draw No Bet line looks like an excellent way to play. There’s no way in which the visitors should be ranked the underdogs in this game and though playing away from home is always tough in games of this magnitude, Inter are 4 matches unbeaten against Cruzeiro and we can see them prolonging that streak via a 1-0 margin of victory.
