Atletico Madrid will travel to face Segunda Division ‘B’ side Cultural Leonesa this Thursday in Copa del Rey action. Atletico will be expecting to take nothing less than a comfortable win from Thursday’s game. However, they haven’t been enjoying the best of fortune on their travels of late.

Despite the significant gap in quality between these two sides, we feel that this game is unlikely to produce a thrashing in favour of Atletico. Their recent away form may continue to make life difficult for them in Thursday’s game.

In addition to that, they have also seen under 2.5 goals scored in nine of their last 16 competitive games. We don’t expect this game to deliver a plethora of goals. 

Leonesa’s Copa del Rey record vs La Liga clubs and their impressive home form

Cultural Leonesa have faced clubs similar in stature to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey in recent years. They have hosted Barcelona on two occasions over the past decade. On both occasions, at home, Cultural Leonesa allowed Barcelona to score no more than two goals. 

Cultural Leonesa have conceded over 2.5 goals in just two Copa del Rey home games over the past decade, once versus Real Madrid and once versus Real Valladolid. Furthermore, Cultural Leonesa’s recent home record gives a stark contrast to Atletico’s away record. 

While Atletico have struggled away from home lately, Cultural Leonesa have thrived in their recent home fixtures. They are undefeated in each of their last  26 competitive home games. 

In addition to that, they have also conceded under 2.5 goals in each of their last 40 competitive home games. This doesn’t bode well for Atletico’s struggling attack going into Thursday’s fixture. 

We feel that this game is unlikely to produce many goals. We are backing under 2.5 goals to be scored in this game.

We feel that Atletico’s quality will ultimately provide too much for Cultural Leonesa to handle. Despite both teams’ recent form we expect Atletico to come away with a narrow win here. However, we don’t expect Atletico to enjoy an easy night. We feel that a tight 1-0 win for Atletico is a likely result of this game.
