Darmstadt vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions
Darmstadt 98 had gone a club-record six games unbeaten in the Bundesliga (W2 D4) before their 4-1 defeat to FC Koln last Saturday. Darmstadt remain four points above Werder Bremen and the relegation play off spot and, more importantly, five points points above Eintracht Frankfurt and the automatic relegation places. With only nine points left to play for, a win would all but guarantee Darmstadt another season in the top flight.
Eintracht Frankfurt are second from bottom and their crucial 2-1 win against Mainz 05 last weekend, along with defeats for relegation rivals Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, Hoffenheim and Darmstadt, kept them in the survival fight. Frankfurt hadn’t scored two goals or more in a match since early February and star striker Alex Meier, who is out for the season, remains Frankfurt’s top scorer with 12 goals despite missing the past eight matches due to injury. Before last weekend, Frankfurt hadn’t scored a goal in the Bundesliga in over 270 minutes of game time.
This match represents Darmstadt’s 100th ever Bundesliga match (they had previously played top flight football back in the 1978/79 and 1981/82 campaigns) and they should have confidence in being able to celebrate this occasion, coming into this match undefeated in their last three home games (W1 D2). Darmstadt may have the second worst home form in the Bundesliga over the entire season, but they have been promising at home in recent weeks, such as their 2-0 win last time out, helping to turn that unwanted record around. Contrastingly, Eintracht Frankfurt have the worst away record in the Bundesliga, taking only nine points from fifteen matches, and are by no means seeming to turn that around, losing their last five consecutive on the road – four of which were defeats “to nil”. Frankfurt are desperately lacking goals, especially away from home, and despite a shock comeback winning 2-1 last weekend, such a “fluke” performance is unlikely to phase a stubbornly consistent Darmstadt 98.
Combining that analysis with the statistics below, we expect Eintracht Frankfurt to continue their struggle for goals without Alex Meier and Darmstadt 98 take a small win securing themselves almost certain safety from their 100th Bundesliga match. Under 2.5 goals and Darmstadt to win 1-0 at 15/2 both seem likely outcomes for this match.
