DC United vs LA Galaxy Predictions

July wasn’t the most fruitful month for DC, who collected just one win from five games, and if their last game is anything to go by, August won’t be great either. After an embarrassing defeat at this venue last time out, Ben Olsen’s men will be hoping to bounce back. Galaxy also need to bounce back after a couple of heavy defeats.

DC have been struggling of late, there can be no getting away from that. Not only did they lose heavily to the conference leaders last time out, but they’ve now won just two of their last ten.

Overall this season, Monday’s hosts have been reasonably steady at home, but they’ve been far from impressive, as they’ve won five, drawn five and lost three of their 13 matches at Audi Field. The fact that they’ve scored 20 goals during that time is pleasing, but the fact that they’ve conceded 19 isn’t.

As we can see from the fact that they’ve averaging 1.43 expected goals for and 1.47 against, DC have found it tough to consistently create more than their opponents at home.

Fortunately for the hosts, LA Galaxy have had similar problems on the road. In truth, playing away from home hasn’t really agreed with Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s men, who’ve won four, drawn one and lost six of 11 travelling matches this term. Not only have they lost more away games than they’ve won, but Galaxy have conceded far more goals than they’ve scored, shipping 18 and notching just ten.

From a betting point of view, ‘DC United to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ stands out as a viable option. For all they’ve not been in the best of form, DC have posted some encouraging expected goals for numbers at home of late, delivering 1.94, 1.64 and 1.48.

Furthermore, goals are never far away when Galaxy are involved – at least three goals have been scored in each of Galaxy’s last three travelling matches – but their overall numbers suggest that they’re more likely to be outscored by Sunday’s hosts than the current prices would have us believe. Galaxy, who’ve lost their last three on the road (3-0, 4-0 and 3-0), average 1.29 expected goals for on the road, while DC create an average of 1.43 at home. Add in the fact that the visitors surrender an average of 1.7, compared to the 1.47 given up by DC at home, and backing the hosts to edge a game containing at least a few goals looks the way to go.
