Deportivo La Coruna vs Racing Santander Predictions

  • Racing are the worst away team in the Spanish second division, with just seven travelling points to their name.
  • Only two teams have scored fewer travelling goals than Racing in the league this season. They average only 0.72 goals away from home.
  • Racing rank as the fifth-worst team in the division when it comes to shots taken.

Depor moving forward

Having reached the play-offs last season, only to go down in the semi-finals, Depor would’ve had their sights set on another push for promotion this time around, though things have gone horribly wrong for the Galician team. As things stand, La Coruna find themselves looking up at every other Segunda side. Fortunately, they’re not yet chasing a lost cause as they’re only four points from safety.

It’s also fortunate things have started to improve of late. Depor have won each of their last two league matches, while this home game against a team that is also in the drop-zone represents a massive opportunity for Thursday’s hosts to continue moving in the right direction.

It hasn’t been a straightforward campaign for Depor, but their last two efforts have been encouraging. Against Tenerife at this venue, La Coruna looked useful going forward, while they also did a good job of resisting at the back. Much of the same can be said of their efforts against Numancia last time out, except on that occasion they did an even better job of restricting their opponents, winning by a goal to nil.

Racing on the back foot

Much like Depor, Racing are in the middle of a poor campaign, though unlike Thursday’s hosts, they’ve not really moved forward of late. Santander have won none of their last five and just one of their last 16.

It’s not that Racing are a side who continually get battered, they’ve lost only two of their last six and have drawn six of their last 10; but they seemingly find it impossible to get their noses in front. Their lack of wins is mainly down to a lack of forward power. Racing have failed to score in three of their last five, as well as in 41% of their games overall this term.

When they have turned up in the final third, they’ve been let down at the back, winning just two of the games where they’ve scored more than once. Away from home, Thursday’s visitors have really struggled of late, especially in an attacking sense. They’ve won none of their last 11 away games, losing three of their last five. Moreover, they’ve scored just one goal in their last five travelling matches.

Hosts to edge it

Depor may be bottom of the league, but they’re up against a travelling side that have been very poor on the road of late. ‘Deportivo La Coruna to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye. After a couple of improved efforts, Depor are fancied to get the job done in low-scoring fashion.

Neither they nor Racing are prolific, while less than four goals have gone in in eight of their last 10 matches combined. The recent attacking efforts of the hosts do exceed those of the visitors, who’ve scored in just one of their last five away matches.

If La Coruna can repeat the performance that saw them beat Numancia by a goal to nil last time out, they can earn another much-needed victory. As such, we are backing 1-0 to Deportivo as our correct score tip.
