Deportivo La Coruna vs Villarreal Predictions

This is one of the toughest games to call this weekend. Villarreal are the stronger all-round side but have struggled to bag maximum points on their travels and with Depor in good form and scoring goals, the hosts may just edge it. Rather than backing the result though, the smart money here could lie in the ‘Both teams to Score’ market.

Deportivo have transformed from a side with a limited goal threat to one whose main strength looks to be their forwards, in a matter of months. Florin Andone took time to settle at his new club following a summer move but having broken his goal duck, the Romanian international hasn’t looked back. He’s netted 6 goals in 7 league games coming into this and benefited from a rest in the Copa del Rey, so should be fresh for this one. Given that backing Andone to score anytime at 2/1 looks a really good bet here.

It hasn’t just been about him though. Joselu has returned to Spain following an ineffective spell in the Premier League with Stoke and has looked a much better player with 2 goals at the Bernabeu his standout performance. The duo have helped Depor come into this game unbeaten in 5 matches and they’ve netted an impressive 1.88 goals per game at home this season in La Liga. They are still conceding a few too many goals though and both teams have scored in 8 of their last 9 league games and in 75% of their league games at the Riazor this term.

Villarreal will come here targeting victory too which should also help make it a fairly open contest. The Yellow Submarine may have the best defensive record in La Liga but plenty of their games have still finished with goals at both ends. That has been the case in all of their last 5 matches in all competitions and both teams have netted in 50% of their away games in La Liga.

They’ve only won 3 of their 14 away games this term in all competitions and 1 of them was against lower league Toledo in the Copa del Rey. With Deportivo in good form and Villarreal winless in 4 matches, the hosts are quite capable of causing their opponents problems here. However, Depor have conceded at least once in 88% of their home league games this term so an away goal looks highly likely too and therefore backing Both Teams to Score at 19/20 looks to offer good value here.
