Dijon vs Lille Predictions
- Lille have won four of their last five clashes with Dijon.
- The visitors have also won seven of their last nine games in all competitions with five clean sheets and 15 goals scored.
- Dijon have won just one of their last six games but have nine goals in their last five home matches.
Giant-killing Dijon
Dijon currently sit 16th in Ligue 1 with one of the most bizarre form sheets you’re likely to see. The Mustards have won just two of their last ten Ligue 1 matches, however, rather bizarrely, these two victories came against 3rd placed Rennes and current runaway leaders PSG. Dijon put in incredible performances to beat those two giants but have been unable to recreate that on a regular basis. They’ve managed to slip up to teams like Amiens (1-1), Metz (2-2) and Brest (0-2) but always somehow play out of their skin against the best teams in France. Outwith the victories over Rennes and PSG, Dijon have narrowly lost to Monaco (0-1) and Lille (0-1), drawn with Montpellier (2-2) and Lyon (0-0).
They have also been rather capable of showing their quality at home with no defeats in their last seven at the Stade Gaston Gérard. They’ve kept three clean sheets with six conceded in this time and managed to be a consistent threat up top with nine scored. They have also been a tough task for Lille whenever they have hosted les Dogues with a narrow loss, draw and convincing win in recent years.
Lille flying high
Lille go into this match with their chests out as les Dogues have been putting together some fantastic performances as of late. They have won seven of their last nine matches with five clean sheets and 15 goals scored making it a purple patch for the club. Galtier’s men have been flying this season and since breaking free of their tiring Champions League duties they have every reason to have a great second half of the season.
Despite a 5-1 blip defeat away to Monaco, Lille have won three of their last five matches on the road with nine goals scored along the way and will be expecting victory as they travel to Dijon. They had a good win in midweek over Amiens in the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final and this should have them confidently prepared for this coming match.
The visitors to maintain momentum?
Even though Dijon have posed Lille a problem or two in recent years, there is a reason the teams are separated by eleven places and with the away team in such fine form, we’re backing the visitors to get the three points. Dijon’s last few games haven’t been overly convincing recently with draws against Metz and Amiens plus a narrow win over Ligue 2 Valenciennes (2-1). Lille also dominated proceedings when they beat Dijon in November so we’re expecting a similar result here. Dijon have nine goals in their last five home games so we’re backing them to net but ultimately we’re backing the away team to win 2-1.
