Doncaster vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
This fixture was a Championship one not so long back but a difficult few years for Doncaster have seen them slide down the divisions and following relegation last term, they kicked off in League Two at the weekend against Accrington. It was another bad day for the Yorkshire club though as they were on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat although only courtesy of a last minute winner from Stanley’s Sean McConville. They did hold Newcastle to a 2-2 draw in pre-season so there is some attacking quality in this Doncaster side and they should be able to give Forest a game here.
The East Midlands club were involved in the game of the weekend in the Football League. Up against Championship newboys and local rivals Burton Albion, they battled back from 2-1 down to seal a thrilling 4-3 win. Defensive problems would have been cause for concern but the return to fitness and form of Britt Assombalonga, who missed virtually the whole of last season, was a massive boost. The striker netted twice in the game and at his best is one of the hottest forwards in the Football League.
This should be quite an open affair and Doncaster do have the occasional appetite for a League Cup upset. They’ve beaten Leeds and Hull at home in the past few seasons in the competition and have scored at least once in all of their last 17 home League Cup games. Given both teams started with high-scoring games at the weekend, it looks obvious where their current strengths and weaknesses lie and backing there to be Over 2.5 Goals at 19/20 looks to offer good value here.
