Dundee United looked down and out at the start of 2016. They had won just two Scottish Premiership games all season and had amassed a miserable total of ten points from their opening 22 games. However, three wins and a draw from their last five Scottish Premiership matches has offered a glimmer of hope to the fans, and they are now eight points away from leaving the foot of the table.

These results haven’t all been against fellow relegation candidates though; they managed to beat both Hearts and Ross County in their last two games, so Aberdeen definitely have something to worry about.

Aberdeen missed out on the chance to close the gap on Celtic at the weekend when they matched the leaders’ result by drawing against St Johnstone. This followed their defeat at Inverness CT the Monday before, and Aberdeen know full well that they have had the chances to give Celtic a real challenge this season. The Champions have slipped up more times than usual so far this season, but Aberdeen haven’t been able to take advantage yet. They remain six points adrift of Celtic.

Aberdeen know that their time to catch Celtic is running out, and the Glaswegian giants won’t continue to drop points forever. Dundee United will also be gunning for a win as well though, because singular points really aren’t much good to them at the moment. This should make for an open, attacking game, and both teams have had a good amount of success in front of goal recently.

Dundee United have scored 11 goals in their last six matches and seen three or more goals scored in five of their last seven. Aberdeen have bettered Dundee United with 12 goals in their last six outings and have seen goalfests in four of their last six. This makes odds of 17/20 for Over 2.5 Goals look very good value for money. I can’t split them in terms of results though, so I’m expecting a high scoring draw, and 12/1 for a 2-2 correct score prediction looks good.
