      Espanyol vs Huesca Predictions

Espanyol will see this Friday’s clash with bottom club Huesca as a good chance to haul themselves back into the top half of La Liga and put their season back on track. The visitors have been better in recent weeks though and would move to just 3 points from safety were they to win this game, a huge swing from where they were at the end of last month.

Huesca’s revival hit a bit of a halt on Monday night though. Having taken 7 points from their previous 3 games and kept 3 straight clean sheets, they were beaten 1-0 at home by Athletic Bilbao. They have a quick chance to make amends as they head to Barcelona just 4 days later but failure to get anything from this game would really stop the momentum they had built up.

Espanyol had a miserable middle part of the season but their fans will be hopeful that they have turned a corner now as they head into this one unbeaten in 3. They picked up a solid point at Valencia last time out to ease any lingering relegation concerns. They are though still one of a number of mid-table sides whose seasons could yet slide into a relegation battle or move in the opposition direction, with the European places by no means out of reach.

Overall the hosts do look capable of winning this match. Despite a pretty severe mid-season dip, their overall home record is still strong. A 64% home win ratio in La Liga this term will certainly please Rubi. They struggled a bit in January with four Copa del Rey games to squeeze in but their squad seems more suited to playing one game per week and they are yet to lose this month.

Momentum is key at this point in the season for teams at the bottom and Huesca’s confidence will have taken a bit of a knock by that home loss to Athletic, another side at least in the relegation picture. Huesca have lost 67% of their away games this term in La Liga and they remain the division’s second lowest scorers overall, which suggests they will struggle to cause big problems for an Espanyol side that has shut the opposition out in 45% of their home games.

Backing Espanyol to Win could be worth a punt while going for Borja Iglesias to Score anytime also could be worth considering. The striker is in double figures for the season in La Liga and has scored 4 goals in his last 4 home appearances in all competitions. He remains by far Espanyol’s biggest goal threat.
