Everton vs Chelsea Predictions

Everton’s 3-2 defeat at home to West Ham last weekend doesn’t look too bad on the face of it, but the fact that Everton were 2-0 up and then missed a penalty makes it all the more devastating for those Evertonians inside Goodison Park. A flurry of late goals from West Ham put them to bed very late in the day, and it will feel like a crushing blow.

Despite this, they are in decent form. They have won five of their last seven in all competitions and are well in the hunt for an FA Cup success. But they need to get past a desperate Chelsea side first.

Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek as PSG beat them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to make it 4-2 on aggregate. Simply put, the soon to be recrowned French champions were just too good for Chelsea, and they now find themselves out of the running of all competitions but this one.

However, they suffered a number of injury blows as Diego Costa and Eden Hazard limped off, and the multiple midweek games recently are sure to have taken their toll on the players. But however tired they are Guus Hiddink will want to put a strong team out and continue their quest for silverware in this disastrous season.

Everton have had more of a rest, and with them floundering down in 12th position of the Premier League they will be focusing all their efforts on continuing their FA Cup run. Goodison Park’s star player Romelu Lukaku will be itching to get one over on the club that overlooked him so often as well.

This all points towards another excellent attacking performance from Everton. They have scored 27 times in their last 12 matches, but a continuation of defensive errors means that they haven’t always yielded the results their attacking play deserves. It’s been great for the neutrals though, with eight of these 12 games seeing at least three goals scored.

Six of Chelsea’s last seven matches have also seen more than two goals scored, which make odds of 4/5 for Over 2.5 Goals look excellent value. I think Chelsea’s tiredness could come into play on Saturday as well, so a 2-1 win for the hosts looks good at 17/2.
