Exeter vs Cambridge United Predictions
- Exeter City have been undefeated in their last eight matches.
- Exeter City have scored in 92% of their home matches.
- Cambridge have failed to win in their last eight away matches.
Home form key to promotion
At the start of the season, it was pretty clear Exeter City’s aspirations for the coming campaign were to finally achieve the promotion they have been so close to over the past few seasons; as we pass the halfway point, they are in an excellent position to finally achieve that aim.
The hosts are second in the league and know if they win their game in hand, they go level on points with the current league leaders. Their chances of accomplishing a win this weekend look pretty good as they come into the match undefeated in their last eight outings and having only failed to score in one of their matches on home soil so far this season.
They are also joint-top of the form table, having claimed an impressive 18 points from their last eight matches, so a further three points this weekend looks to be on the cards.
Away-day blues
Making the trip to St James’ Park is a Cambridge United side who have not exactly been at the top of their game on their travels of late. The visitors have failed to win their last eight away matches in the league and know a similar record over the past few seasons has prevented them kicking on in the league and fighting for the promotion places.
While they are not out of the race for the play-offs, the gap is growing all the time and they know they need to address their travel sickness if they are to overcome the sides ahead of them. However, they have just one goal in their last four away games, and with plenty going in at the other end, they know they face an uphill struggle.
The hosts should be too strong
In almost every statistic, Exeter City seem to have the edge in this fixture. They are stronger at home than Cambridge are away, they have scored more and conceded less and they come into this match in excellent form while their visitors have struggled.
It is therefore hard to imagine anything other than a comfortable home win in this fixture and backing them to get the three points is exactly where we are placing our trust. In terms of a correct score tip, we think the final result should have a pretty comfortable look to it.
The Grecians average 1.67 goals per game at home this season and given they have kept a clean sheet in 58% of their home matches, a shut out may be on the cards. Meanwhile, the visitors have scored just once in their last four away matches and have failed to score in 54% of all away matches this season, so backing a 2-0 home win appears the way to go.
