Exeter vs Crewe Predictions
- Exeter are yet to lose at home against teams that currently reside in the top eight.
- Both teams have scored in 100% of Crewe’s away matches against top-eight opposition.
- Both teams have scored in 82% of Crawley’s away games in the League 2 this season.
St. James Park no easy place to go
In their bid to challenge for the title, the pressure seems to have got to Exeter a bit over the last few weeks. Tuesday’s hosts first came unstuck away at Northampton, losing by two goals to nil, while they could only manage a draw at home last time out. That said, the Grecians remain in a strong position just two points off top spot, while they’re very, very good at getting results at home.
Exeter have been one of League 2’s best travellers this season, but they’ve really come into their own at home, both offensively and defensively, scoring 30 goals and conceding 14. Impressively, they’ve lost just once at St. James Park and are now unbeaten in 11 in front of their own fans, seven of which they’ve won.
Furthermore, Matt Taylor’s men are unbeaten at home against those currently in the top eight, winning three and drawing three against such opposition, keeping four clean sheets in the process.
Railwaymen poised
St. James is not as easy place to go, there’s no denying that, but Crewe, who’re one point above Exeter in 2nd place, are the top scorers in League 2 and have had no problem whatsoever firing in the goals away from home this term.
In terms of winning games and collecting points, Crewe are only the seventh-best travelling team in League 2, but they’re the second-highest away scorers with 28. The explosive Railwaymen have notched in each of their last eight travelling matches, scoring an average of 1.75. They’ve also scored in 100% of their away matches against teams currently in the top eight. Unfortunately, they’re without a clean sheet in such matches and have recorded just two shutouts on the road all season.
Goals, goals, goals
Exeter are known to keep teams quiet at home but shutting out the top scorers in the division is likely to be beyond them. ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ stands out as a viable option. Crewe are very good at getting on the scoresheet on the road, even against the top teams. They’ve scored in four out of four away against top-eight teams. The fact that they’ve struggling immeasurably at the back at times also lends itself to the selection. Crewe are without a clean sheet in their four matches against top-eight teams, three of which have yielded at least three match goals, while both teams have found the net in a massive 82% of their travelling matches this term.
In the ‘Correct Score’ market, a 2-1 win for the hosts appeals. For all Crewe have the tools to hurt the hosts, they’re much the weaker side at the back, which points towards the hosts edging it. Crewe have scored exactly once in seven of their last 11 on the road. Exeter have conceded exactly once in each of their last three at home and haven’t conceded more than once against top-eight opposition.
