FC Copenhagen vs Red Star Belgrade Predictions

Going away to Belgrade was never going to be easy, though Copenhagen will have returned to Denmark feeling pleased with themselves. Not only did they avoid defeat, but they also got themselves what could turn out to be a crucial away goal. Back on their own patch, Ståle Solbakken’s men will be confident that they can progress.

There was plenty to like about the way in which Copenhagen went about their business last week, as they dictated the tempo in order to nullify the threat posed by their opponents. As they gave away a respectable 0.94 expected goals and conceded just once, such an approach worked reasonably well. Going forward, the Danes didn’t carry the biggest threat, but they still managed to score and create marginally more than their hosts, posting 0.99 expected goals for.

Not only did Copenhagen deliver a good effort last week, but their home performance during the previous round was also encouraging. They were up against reasonably weak opposition in TNS, but they could hardly have been more in control, as they cruised to a 1-0 victory. On that occasion, the Danes created 1.49 expected goals for and conceded just 0.05, shipping only two shots.

While Copenhagen delivered a solid effort at home during the previous round, Crvena struggled to impose themselves away in Finland. It wasn’t that the Serbian outfit were outplayed, nor did they look overly weak at the back, as they shipped only 0.77 expected goals for, but they looked somewhat toothless in the final third. In Helsinki, Crvena created a rather subdued 0.85 expected goals for. Unless they improve somewhat considerably going forward, then they’re going to struggle to make the required headway on Tuesday evening.

In the betting, ‘Copenhagen to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye. Their performance last week suggests that the Danish outfit can get the better of Crvena on home soil, though we shouldn’t expect fireworks. The Serbian side don’t have too much to offer going forward, especially on the road, as their recent effort in Helsinki illustrates, while as solid as the hosts were at home during the previous round, they’re yet to show anything that points towards them handing out a hefty beating.
